Derivatives: Maybe it's not about the state you're in, but rather, the difference from your previous state. One may be feeling great, and still be great if something, however small, goes amiss, but all of a sudden it feels not so. Conversely, if one is down, a subtle change can bring one to near-euphoric states, even if the new, more elevated state still looms deep in the shadows. Still, it's supposedly far easier to return the positive derivative if you are way up rather than way down...

Locality: Action-at-a-distance is vigorously denied by relativity, and still quantum mechanics paradoxically insists on it. Speaking of myself and not of the EPR experiment, it is irrefutably true: I am indeed affected by actions and thoughts which take place some ten thousand kilometers away from here - the question of whether they violate causality remains open.

And thermodynamics, of course: the entropy just keeps increasing...
